Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brawijaya University (UB or Universitat Brawijaya), Prof. Nakagoshi of Hiroshima University was invited to attend the Ceremonial Event held on campus to celebrate Indonesia’s Independent Day (August 17th). As an honorable guest, his seat was set together with Prof. Dr. Ir. Yogi Sugito, the Rector of the Universitas Brawijaya.

The contribution made to UB by Prof. Nakagoshi was highly appreciated by the Rector. By March 2010, a total of four lecturers dispatched from Universitas Brawijaya studied at IDEC, Hiroshima University. Three of them successfully achieved the doctor’s degree under the supervision of Prof. Nakagoshi, and one completed his master’s degree as it was scheduled.

By March 2010, a total of four lecturers dispatched from Universitas Brawijaya studied at IDEC, Hiroshima University. All of them are working at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya, and actively applying what they have learnt at Hiroshima University in their respective workplaces.

They are Dr. Rodiyati Azrianingsih, Laboratory of Plant Taxonomy, Dr. Luchman Hakim, Environmental Conservation and Nature-based tourism management, Dr. Amin Setyo Leksono, Laboratory Ecology and Animal Diversity and Mr. Brian Rahardi.

The title of the lecture was “Landscape Ecology in Monsoon and Tropical Asia", and some 50 students (Faculty of Science)attended it.

Aiming for interdisciplinary, Universitas Brawijaya has recently established a new postgraduate course, and Prof.Nakagoshi was invited to give the very first guidance lecture to some 30 postgraduate students as part of the doctorate course, and introduced several programs such as the Gels held by IDEC, Hiroshima University.


PublicationMeeting for the Joint Research

Having a strong backup, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Brawijaya, NKK lab will be fostering new research collaboration, with a team lead by Dr. Stiman B. Sumitro who is a professor in cell biology in the Department of Biology. The research will be conducted in the field of biodiversity conservation in East Java.

PublicationMeeting the Students Candidates

Meeting one of the student candidates coming to Japan this September with the financial support of Genesis Jasso (Japan Student Services Organization) was realized and, some preliminary guidance was given to her, to facilitate her research after October in Japan. Another candidate to meet was a lecturer of UB, who is now applying for the “Scholarship for Indonesians”.  Research guidance was given to realize his potential research in Japan.

Prof. Nakagoshi visited the Kota Wisata Batu, to learn about activities relating to organic farming. He was invited to observe the “Gapoktan Vegori” (Vegori Agricultural Farmers Cooperatives) an NPO and had an active discussion with its leader Mr. Frans Soetrisno Lasmono. (photo left)

Prof. Nakagoshi observed their seedling nurseries, mix-culture sites, and actual organic farming activities.

The NPO group as hosting some 10 high school students as interns, Prof. Nakagoshi also had a chance to give them a lecture on organic farming in Japan.
